THE COWS CAME TO ME
I am an artist. It is my job to observe. I'm also a mother and a wife. I also have cares of this world, things to plan, things to clean, health and beauty, supply and demand. It is so easy to run this race and forget to observe.
The other day I found the perfect field full of the most adorable cows. I like to paint cows. I stopped and got out to take pictures. The cows all started to walk toward me. I thank God for that. The slightest move and they would spook but with quietness and stillness they were coming to me. I observed their curiosity. I observed personalities. I observed mud swallows singing a song and flying a pattern around the sky to distract me from their nests. I observed the stream and how it turned in it's banks, the colors and the ripples of the water. I observed the beautiful purple flowers all along the field. I got quiet enough to see.
Then I see God. I see his creation. Take time to read the bible verse Luke 19:37-40. (This scripture takes place during the triumphal entry of Christ. The disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen; saying, Blessed be the King that comes in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest. And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master (Jesus), rebuke thy disciples. And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.) The creation around us is praising God. With that in mind I like to pause often and just look around and listen. Seeing his creation is part of our praise. Learning to notice brings awareness of our relationship with him every moment of the day. God is around us in everything. Humility helps us know God because we stop thinking of and seeing ourselves long enough to see him. The best part of that is he is where we find our true identity. When we accept that he is our Savior, we also ask for and receive the Holy Spirit in us which is our completion.
Shed yourself and give yourself to your creator. Believe in Jesus Christ who makes you good enough. Then get in relationship with him in the same way that we know relationship; like spending time reading the Bible, talk with him, ask questions of him, seek out people who pursue God to know more. Those good words (only good!) in your mind are God, that praise song in your mouth and mind is God. As you go about your days, choose to see God and hear God! It will bring a smile to your face.
